While stopping at a red light, you should have noticed that if the rush is excessive, some people shut off their car engines and kick back quietly. No, they are not stupid! They are actually giving more life to their car. Unnecessary idling kills your car slowly without you even knowing it!
Idling the car puts pressure on the modern fuel injection systems in today's cars. Idling was applied in cold or hot weathers when fuel injection wasn't prevalent in older cars. To keep the engine from stalling, people used to keep it running or it might not turn on.
But today, you don't need to do that! The idling you do on today's car burns precious fuel and leaves fuel residue on the cylinder walls that stick to it since the cylinders aren't moving as fast as they normally do. This contaminates the engine oil with carbon residue and makes your car's innards dirty.
If you drive more on the highway, idling never occurs, but in traffic congestion, you have the tendency to idle a lot, which puts immense heat on the engine. The very best thing to do is to look at the timer on the traffic signal and turn off your car accordingly or keeping the car in neutral and giving some extra RPM to the car so that idling doesn't occur much.
If you really need the car to keep running with the AC on in summers, keep giving revs to the car so that the engine runs better and oil circulates inside the engine. Since India is a highly humid country, AC is always on, but try using it less frequently since it puts pressure on the car parts and you wish to prolong the life of your car don't you?
Can you choose your attitude? Some people will say yes! However, is it a learned behaviour or simply in us? I really have no idea the answer I wish I did!, What I do know is that it is our attitude that can let us down on the road.
